Brookside wooded retreat filled with history

Camp Belle Kinney

Boiceville, NY
$120/night - Continue to Booking

Stay at a brookside wooded retreat amongst the towering trees of the Catskills on the former estate of the late sculptor and artist Belle Kinney.

The property borders tens of acres of preserved state land. At the foot of the campsite is a beautiful, flowing stream, easily audible from inside the tent to soothe you to sleep. On a hot day, cool yourself off in the fresh (cold!) water of the stream. Just don't wake up the crayfish! It's not deep enough to swim, but wadeable and refreshing nonetheless.

However, if your in need of a swim, swimming is accessible a short drive down the road in the Esopus Creek as well as at other various swimming holes in the area like Blue Hole, which is about 25 minutes away by car. Inner tube rides in the Esopus are available a short drive away in Phoenicia, NY. Local restaurants like The Phoenicia Diner are a short drive as well. The local and longtime establishment Boiceville Inn is walkable, but probably less than 5 minutes by car. Hunter Mountain, about 30 minutes away, has zip lines in the offseason.

Can't say that I necessarily spend a lot of time camping in the woods, but I spend plenty of time in the woods and in nature. Im a huge fan of botany, herpetology, ornothology, arboriculture and hiking. Its the place where I find the most peace and inspiration. If the weather is permitting and even some times when its not, I prefer to be amongst the trees. The smell of cool soil is soothing.
